There are countless methods to visualize your goals and dreams. Basically, none is right or wrong, and the best is to choose a technique that works for you. The stronger, the more realistic, you can visualize the inner picture of your dream, the better.
Here is a short step by step guide for a basic visualization technique:
1. make sure that you don’t get distracted by doing your visualization in a quiet environment.
2. close your eyes, take some deep breaths. Slowly inhale through your nose, count to five, exhale through your mouth, count to five again. Do this a few times until you feel fully relaxed.
3. Imagine a clear mental picture of what you desire. Focus on every detail. Pay close attention to things like textures, colors, smells, or sounds. Imagine yourself to touch things, listen to what you hear, smell the things around you, can you even taste something?
4. Feel how good it feels now that you have (achieved) what you desire. Feel it deep in your heart and anchor that feeling.
You can stay in this state as long as you wish. When you truly feel the good feelings of your achievement, you can then open your eyes again.
Some more advanced techniques I love to use are the following:
YOUR PERFECT DAY
The perfect day is one of my favorite visualization techniques.
The aim of this visualization exercise is for you to design your ideal day and then visualize it. A day where you have no commitments, where money plays no role.
What would this perfect day look like for you?
This day serves as a representative for your future life and should give you the opportunity to live all your desired experiences. This exercise is also great to find out what you want, but let’s focus on the visualization for now.
Make sure you don’t restrict yourself. This day belongs ONLY to you, and everything is possible.
You can be what you want, you can be where you want, and you can do what you want.
So no matter if you want to go shopping in London and then go with the girls to an afternoon tea at Harrods, or if you prefer to go for a walk on the beach on Bora Bora with your spouse, it is your decision.
Live your day exactly as you wish.
However, it should be something you can imagine regularly doing. This day is symbolic of “every day” of your life.
So if you would like to take a walk on the beach on vacation, but you get bored sitting on the beach after a week or two, this is hardly your “ideal day.”
But if your big dream is to be a digital nomad, to travel the world together with your best friend, to visit the most beautiful beaches on this planet, then you are on the right track with your perfect day.
The following questions can help you to create your perfect day:
Where do I live?
Which city, which country?
Do I live in a house, apartment, hotel, or maybe in an RV?
How is this place furnished?
With whom do I live there?
What does my lifestyle look like?
When do I get up in the morning, when do I go to bed, what do I do in between?
How do I eat, how healthy do I feel, do I exercise?
How do I spend my free time? What kind of people do I surround myself with?
How much money do I have? Do I need to work to earn money? If so, what does my job or business looks like?
What kind of car do I drive? Do I even drive a car, or maybe a bike? Or do I have a driver?
What are my dreams?
What am I working on?
What are my goals?
Which ones have I already achieved?
Take enough time for this exercise, go into every detail of your ideal day, experience it like a movie you watch, or see yourself going through it yourself.
You can also write down this ideal day to reinforce it. Either you write it down first and then read through it, just before you visualize the day, or you imagine your ideal day and then write it down, for example, in a journal.
